Moving On Up

I'm excited that SERIOUS CHORD SQUAD have been added as the support band for the forthcoming FROM THE JAM gig at G-LIVE in Guildford.

THE SQUAD have been on an upward trajectory in recent months, Supporting The Complete Stone Roses at the 100 Club and Geno Washington at The Half Moon in Putney.

What wins people over is that we play with a raw passion and intensity just like the bands did back in the day and you just can't beat that type of music.

GUITAR LESSONS are now back in full swing after the Summer holidays. New students along with regulars have started their lessons. There is still some availablity as I'm now back to being full time - all the time. Lessons are available weekdays during the day too!

First Ever Solo Gig!

Once more it's been one of those busy weeks for gigs....
Thursday was a solo acoustic gig at Daisys in The Park Bistro in Radlett, Hertfordshire performing fingerstyle instrumentals. Hard work doing 3 x 45 minute sets and the traffic on the M25 was horrendous taking me 2 hours to get there. but it was worth it by the time I finished.

Saturday was a gig over at The Star Inn, Guildford. We had a 40 minute set Supporting The Special Guests featuring Enzo from 70's Mod band SQUIRE. It went very well and met some new fans who may come along to some future SQUAD dates.

Sunday was a Gig over at Oatlands Park Working Mens Club over in Weybridge. Mike Thompson has been organising a Sunday afternoon Mod Club called LAZY SUNDAY AFTERNOON. The headline act was GET READY who perform songs by The Ronettes, Dusty Springfield plus lots of other mod anthems. Support slots were Mike Thompson from Serious Chord Squad performing some acoustic versions of Mod songs - Millions like us, My World, The Kids are Alright and That's Entertainment. There was even an acoustic version of Motorheads' Ace of Spades. There's a video! I'm sure that will surface soon.

The first support was ME! It was my first solo gig ever! I performed four songs that I've been writing over the Summer.

There was a great reaction from the crowd so I'm itching to do some more gigs whenever the opportunity arises. I'm starting to feel a bit more comfortable with the singing bit. For so many years I've been a lead guitarist standing at the side of the stage doing the odd backing vocal. Being a frontman is a totally different job.

This coming week sees SERIOUS CHORD SQUAD playing at THE 100 CLUB supporting THE COMPLETE STONE ROSES. That's going to be one blinder of a gig. We played there with them in February and the place was packed. Return gig at the request of The Roses themselves!

Klooks Kleek

Last night I got to play a gig with SERIOUS CHORD SQUAD at The Railway in West Hampstead. The pub used to be a legendary venue in the 60's and 70's. The people that have played there are truly awesome.

Led Zeppelin
Jimi Hendrix
Stevie Wonder
The Amboy Dukes
John Mayall

It was great to follow in their footsteps. There must be something in the walls of that place as we all played brilliantly and got a great reaction. We'll be back for a gig in December.

Last Sunday I made a start on the solo career, if you can call it that. I've been writing some songs over the Summer and performed 4 at an open mic gig at The Ailsa Tavern in St. Margarets.

I was a bit nervous when I was waiting around but once I got up on stage the songs flowed well and got a good reaction about the songs from the other musicians. The night was organised by Elaine Samuels from The Kindred Spirit band an it's a good place to play at.
